Most probably not. The name "Thomas Pohl" is not that uncommon, at least not in Germany. Just try Google. The last time I tried, I got about 1000 hits.

If you are looking for a guy who lives in Germany, studied Physics at the University of Augsburg, and is doing his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Erlangen right now, chances are that you found the right "Thomas Pohl". To be really sure, you can have a look at this picture of me.

Why did you write your homepage in English?

As you already might have guessed, my native language is German. Nevertheless, I have chosen to write my homepage in English to make the information available for as many interested persons as possible. Apart from that, most Germans speak English, too, so there is no real drawback to it. Of course I realize that my English is far from being perfect, so please apologize the mistakes that you will certainly spot (Please send me an email about it. Thanks!).

Why is the design of your homepage so boring/ugly/...?

The more I surf in the web, the more I enjoy and appreciate clear and simple web pages. Aren't you also tired of animated and blinking pictures and banners without any meaning?

I am also aware of the poor bastards with their 56K modems (I'm one of them) that have to wait for each and every byte of a web page. If you are one of the lucky guys with DSL or a cable modem or some other fancy device that makes surfing a breeze, you will find enough stuff to burn some bandwidth in the section about my work.
